Variables view access issue in Octopus

Hi Team,

I want to create an user role in octopus, who can only view the variables in the/all environments. So when i created the role i chose/selected “view variable” option but still the user who has that role access is not seeing the variables.

Please see the screenshots for the role setup and error message we are seeing.

Thanks in advance.

Pavan.

Hi Pavan,

Thanks for reaching out.

So you created a custom role, assigned it to a team and then added this user to the team, correct?

To which environments is that team scoped to? Is it scoped to only a handful of environment or is the “Environments” field empty, meaning it is scoped to all of them?

Also, which version of Octopus are you running?

Regards,
Dalmiro

Hi,

Yes, I’ve created a role, assigned it to a team and then I’ve added a user. This group is scoped to only a few environments, please see the attached screenshot.

Octopus 3.2.2 is the version we are using.

Thanks,
Pavan Kumar Polneni.

HiPavan,

Thanks for sending over that info. Could you send a set of screenshots that show all the roles assigned to that Team Role? Just like Octo2.PNG on your last reply, but showing all the checkboxes marked.

Thanks,
Dalmiro

Hi,

Attached are the screenshots for the user created with all the roles assigned.
Please let me know if you need anything.

Thanks,
Pavan Kumar Polneni.

Hi,

Please see the attachments of screenshots showing all the roles assigned to that Team Role.

Thanks,
Pavan Kumar Polneni.

Hi,

The User Role seems to be missing the role “VariableViewUnscoped” (see Octo2.png in one of your first posts), which grants access to the variables that are not scoped to any environment.

Maybe that’s what you are missing? Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
Dalmiro
