Upgrade from 3.3.8 to 3.3.11 hangs

Hi,

I just tried to upgrade our Octopus Server from 3.3.8 to 3.3.11 and it’s been sitting on one script for the past hour. Below is what I see in the logs after the server started back up after the update.

2016-05-04 20:09:13.2957 7 INFO The Octopus server is starting: Initializing database and performing migrations…
2016-05-04 20:09:13.5317 7 INFO Beginning database upgrade
2016-05-04 20:09:13.5317 7 INFO Fetching list of already executed scripts.
2016-05-04 20:09:13.5727 7 INFO Executing SQL Server script 'Octopus.Core.UpgradeScripts.Script0040RemoveTemplateScriptStepPropertiesThatDoNotApplyToTheScriptSource.cs’
2016-05-04 20:09:13.9477 7 INFO Executing SQL Server script ‘Octopus.Core.UpgradeScripts.Script0041FixOrDeleteChannelReferencesForVariablesAndReleaseCreationOptions.cs’

I see nothing after the Script0041 entry. Is this normal? We have a pretty good amount of data in there, but I wouldn’t expect it to take that long.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi Josh,

Thanks for getting in touch! Sorry for the troubles. Hopefully by now this has completed. We needed to run a script to fix some data corruption that needed to read through quite a bit of information.
We can look into at least having some form of status to help you know its progress.

Please let me know if your upgrade has not completed.
Vanessa

Hi Vanessa,

I rolled back to 3.3.8 just in case something had gone wrong. I’ll try it again over the weekend. Maybe it just needed more time.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Josh,

Please keep me updated how it went.

Vanessa

Hi Vanessa,

The script ended up taking 3.5 hours, but it did finish. Some kind of progress indicator would be great for future scripts that could take a while.

Hi Josh,

Yeah, absolutely agreed. Thanks for letting us know about your experience, hopefully we can improve on these for you in the future.
