Support for Windows Server 2016

Is Octopus supported on Windows Server 2016 yet or will this require a future update to bring support?
We’re making a start upgrading some servers to Windows Server 2016 so I want to know if it is safe to upgrade our Octopus server yet?]

Thanks.

And while I’m asking, is the current tentacle good to run on Windows Server 2016 (with a GUI)?

I understand getting it to run under Core or Nano could be a much bigger issue.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for getting in touch! We will be supporting Windows Server 2016 once it is shipped, and can’t see any reason Tentacle won’t work on Server Core - you will just need to use the Command-Line utilities for configuration.

Nano Server will require .NET Core and we intend to support it in a future release of Octopus.

Hope that helps!
Mike

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I don’t know why it wasn’t a bigger thing, but it shipped early last week.
It is available for purchase, download via Microsoft’s licensing programs, and to developers via MSDN (and other ways I’m sure but these are the ways we’ve been obtaining it since last Wednesday).

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Andy,

Thanks for getting back to me! Wow, I went hunting because I knew it was supposed to be late September, and then I didn’t hear anything. I’ve got to admit, I didn’t even think to check MSDN!

If you find Octopus Server or Tentacle has trouble running on Windows Server 2016 (Full or Core) please get back in touch!

Once we have our automated testing configured to include Windows Server 2016 we will update our documentation to suit.

Happy Deployments!
Mike

Hi Andy,

Just wanted to let you know we’ve added Windows Server 2016 to our automated testing and updated our supported operating systems accordingly.

Hope that helps!
Mike
