News Update Regarding Docker Support

I’d like to start using Docker. Is there any update on the Docker support in Octopus Deploy? There were warnings that current alpha/beta support might change.

Docker 13.1.0 added support for secrets and the new docker stack deploy command uses a newer Docker compose 3.1 format. Is there any news around how Octopus might work with these two features.

Hi,
The we plan on removing the beta flag in the following few days without any major structural changes. The only real change will be to make docker feeds easier to configure by auto-detecting the version being provided (see Github issue here).

At the moment we don’t have any immediate plans to provide additional functionality to the existing docker steps. When we do have the resources to put into improving our Docker support it is likely that it will be more around providing steps to better integrate with orchestrators like Kubernetes and/or Docker Swarm since this seems to be where the real value of integration with an Octopus deployment lies.

If you have some ideas on direction we should take with this integration, then might I suggest you add your thoughts to our UserVoice section so that we can track what features are in most demand by our users.

Let me know if i can be of any help in getting your initial Docker steps set up.
Cheers,
Rob
